This is the news reported by the reporter from Hunan Gaorui Power Supply, a company in Xiangtan High-tech Zone. Previously, this technology was held by Japan and South Korea, where they controlled the diaphragm heat resistance temperature at around 160 degrees Celsius.
Lithium batteries are composed of main materials such as positive electrode materials, negative electrode materials, diaphragms, electrolytes, and other auxiliary materials, with the diaphragm having the highest technical barrier. When the battery experiences thermal runaway, the diaphragm shrinks under heat, making it prone to short circuits, necessitating a coating of inorganic material. Gaorui Power Supply has developed a "glue"—a water-based adhesive for lithium batteries that is applied between this layer of inorganic material and the diaphragm.

Xi Liujiang explained that lithium dendrites melt at around 180 degrees Celsius, and when they pierce the diaphragm, it leads to battery short circuits, causing thermal runaway in battery packs, which is a significant cause of fires in new energy vehicle batteries. Gaorui Power Supply's latest research has overcome challenges such as high heat resistance and low moisture residue in ceramic-coated diaphragms, thereby increasing the diaphragm's heat resistance temperature and reducing the likelihood of battery pack fires. Xi Liujiang stated, "For ceramic-coated diaphragms, good heat resistance means high moisture residue; heat resistance and moisture are a natural contradiction." After years of technical breakthroughs, the company has developed the third-generation product GR-508 series, with adhesive heat resistance improved from around 180 degrees Celsius in the second generation to over 200 degrees Celsius, and moisture residue below 0.0005.
Wang Xianyou, a foreign academician of the Russian Academy of Engineering and a professor at Xiangtan University, and Liu Hongtao, a professor at Central South University, highly praised this research. They believe that this patented technology achieves a coating film shrinkage temperature greater than the melting point temperature of lithium dendrites, giving lithium batteries higher safety and longer lifespan.

It is reported that Gaorui Power Supply focuses on the research, production, and sales of water-based adhesives for lithium batteries and is a national high-tech enterprise, with its products twice recognized as "China's Good Technology." Currently, the company is accelerating the construction of a lithium battery materials project with an annual output of 50,000 tons in Xiangtan High-tech Zone, with an expected annual output value exceeding 1 billion yuan.
